As the newly appointed Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah's powers are limited compared to other state Chief Ministers. Here's what he can and cannot do:

J&K Chief minister Omar Abdullah joined CM office at Secretariat and held meeting with secretaries of various departments on October 16.

Omar Abdullah's newly formed cabinet aims for inclusivity, with Surinder Choudhary appointed as Deputy Chief Minister. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference seeks to represent the Jammu region effectively.

Abdullah will lead Kashmir's first elected government since the region's semi autonomy was abrogated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Omar Abdullah took the oath of office along with five ministers – Sakina Masood (Itoo), Javed Dar, Javed Rana, Surinder Choudhary and Satish Sharma.

Abdullah said that there should be no "stick-waving" or "aggressive gestures" by the police when he travels by road, calling for a more people-friendly approach.

Omar Abdullah also asked the Jammu and Kashmir police to refrain from creating a green corridor for his movement.
