Netflix is starting to raise prices in some countries as growth spurred by its crackdown on password sharing starts to fade. The film and TV streaming giant said it had already lifted subscription fees in Japan and parts of Europe as well as the Middle East and Africa over the last month.

The question of whether the company plans to up the prices of its streaming subscriptions in the future has been raised yet again as Netflix’s soon-to-be-released third-quarter results approach.

Netflix shares rose 5.2% in premarket trading on Friday, after the streaming giant topped Wall Street estimates for new subscriber additions by more than 1 million and projected higher customer sign-ups for the December quarter.

Netflix jumped more than 6% on Friday, buoyed by investor optimism that its robust content lineup will help the streaming giant maintain upbeat subscriber growth even as the boost from its password-sharing crackdown wanes.

Wall Street futures climbed on Friday, led by gains in those tracking the Nasdaq 100 as technology shares broadly advanced, while Netflix surged following upbeat results. Shares of Netflix gained 5.8% in premarket trading after the streaming giant topped Wall Street estimates for subscriber additions and said it expected continued growth through the end of the year.

Wall Street began Friday's regular trading session in mixed fashion. A post-earnings pop in streaming giant Netflix (NFLX) boosted the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index (COMP:IND), which was countered by a slide in American Express (AXP) that weighed on the blue-chip Dow (DJI).
