The High Court has issued a conservatory ordern stopping the filling of the vacancy in the Office of the Deputy President following Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment.

Kenya’s Senate on Thursday voted to sack Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office by impeachment. Gachagua, who pled not guilty to the charges of corruption, abuse of office, and inciting ethnic divisions, became the first sitting deputy president in the country to be removed from office by impeachment.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been impeached by the Senate. Gachagua stood impeached after senators took a vote on the first charge, accusing him of undermining national unity. According to the tally,

Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been removed from office after he was impeached in a historic vote in the country’s Senate on Thursday night. Gachagua becomes the first deputy president to be removed from office in this way since impeachment was introduced in Kenya’s 2010 constitution.
