Nonbinary and pansexual music artist Janelle Monáe tore into Nelly for having “sold out” by performing at a Donald Trump inauguration event. Monáe was performing a rendition of Nelly’s Hot in Herre at a Grammy’s after party when she stopped to tell the crowd she “used to like Nelly but then he went to perform for Donald Trump.”

Now, they are being taken to task by their peers in the music industry, with Janelle Monáe specifically calling out Nelly in a post-Grammys freestyle. When she was given the beat to Nelly’s 2002 hit “Hot In Herre” to rap over, she obliged, but used the opportunity to criticize the St. Louis native for selling out.
