The New York Mets have retained a key piece of their lineup, agreeing to a two-year, $54 million deal with powerhouse first baseman Pete Alonso, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The New York Mets are reuniting with first baseman Pete Alonso, who will now take aim at the franchise's all-time home run record as they make a run toward October.

The two-time Home Run Derby champion is just 26 home runs from tying Darryl Strawberry’s franchise home run record (252), which the Mets expect Alonso to break this season. If he continues on his career home run pace, he’ll be known as the greatest Met power hitter in the team’s history.
