With bird flu cases cropping up across the country — including in Virginia — members of the state’s Democratic congressional delegation are demanding the immediate reinstatement of disease and virus reports after President Donald Trump’s administration ordered a pause in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) communications.

The ongoing bird flu outbreak has continued to affect multiple industries in the Richmond area and other parts of the U.S., including farms and restaurants.

Six cases of bird flu have been reported in Maryland, as of Feb. 2, according to the Department of Agriculture (MDA).

The price of eggs have skyrocketed thanks to the bird flu, impacting everything from big-chain grocery stores and restaurants, to the local deli around the corner selling your favorite bacon, egg and cheese.

Egg farms are still recovering from the 2022 outbreak but now there’s also the cage-free law, mutations and competition as bird flu devastates other states.
