Durham police confirm a woman shot on Fayetteville Street died, marking a decrease in the city's fatal shootings this year.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded at around 11:48 p.m. to a report of a gunshot wound on the 900 block of Fayetteville Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. A short time later, the victim was pronounced dead. She was later identified as 34-year-old Chaquila Little.

A woman who was shot late Sunday night south of downtown died at the hospital, Durjam police said. The fatal shooting occurred around 11:48 p.m. in the 900 block of Fayetteville Street. Officers responding to a report of a gunshot wound found a woman who had been shot. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
