For more than 25 years, the International Space Station (ISS) has been a beacon of human ingenuity, orbiting 250 miles above Earth. But this symbol of international collaboration is reaching the end of its operational life.

Vast Space, a California company, believes its Haven 2 design is the best successor to the decades-old ISS project.

Vast's Haven-2 concept joins three other commercial space-station proposals that have been submitted to NASA, and would string together modules launched from 2028 through 2032.

Thanks to a new contract from NASA, Sierra Space Corp. will develop a Trash Compaction and Processing System and test it aboard the International Space Station in late-2026.
