House Republicans praised Gov. Kim Reynolds’ state government realignment efforts in Iowa as she testified at the U.S. House Oversight Hearing on Government Efficiency Wednesday while Democrats drew comparisons between Iowa’s actions and President Donald Trump’s moves to make the federal government more efficient.

The hearing comes as President Donald Trump recently established the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds sent a letter to the Winneshiek County Sheriff and Board of Supervisors reminding them of their obligation to follow state law and comply with ICE’s enforcement of immigration laws.

The office in northeast Iowa will determine its assistance based on how federal agencies carry out detainments. Marx's position is not only at odds with directives from the governor, it also violates a 2018 law that requires law enforcement agencies to comply with detainer requests.
