This week, sky watchers get to experience the third in a series of four consecutive supermoons—a full moon that occurs near its closest point in its orbit of Earth. As you take in the splendor of Earth’s natural satellite,

October 20 – The Moon rises near Jupiter, with the giant planet looking extremely bright. You should be able to find them low in the east after around 10 pm. October 23-24 – Early risers will be able to spot Mars together with the Moon, high overhead in the south both mornings.

After a display of the rare Northern Lights and an appearance of a comet that may leave the solar system forever, the year’s largest supermoon completed October’s celestial trifecta.
