A power-sharing agreement between Republicans and Democrats gives more power to the GOP until a special election later this month returns the House to a tie.

Under the Minnesota deal, House Democrats received GOP assurances that they will not try to unseat a Democrat who won reelection by only 14 votes in a swing district where 20 ballots went missing. An ethics committee will hold a hearing on that race but won't take further action.

GOP leader Lisa Demuth will serve as speaker for the next two years and Republicans will chair committees at least until a March special election.
