The Albany State University family is deeply saddened to learn of an incident that took place on campus at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024. As always, the safety and security of our ASU students, faculty and staff are the number one priority of this institution.

One person was killed and at least five others wounded in a shooting at Albany State University in Georgia during the school’s homecoming Saturday night, police said. The deceased victim was identified as 19-year-old De-Marion Tayshawn Daniels, local NBC affiliate WALB reported. Daniels was from Atlanta, about 150 miles north of Albany.

The shooting took place near the Student Union on the university's East Campus, according to WALB, the NBC affiliate in Albany. Some of the victims were treated inside the Student Union.

One person was killed and five people were injured in a shooting at one of Albany State University’s Homecoming events late Saturday night. On Monday afternoon, ASU Interim President Dr. Lawrence Drake II delivered a message about the shooting.
