The IPL Governing COuncil has brought back a rule in which a franchise can retain a player as 'uncapped' if he has not played International cricket in the last five years. Chennai Super Kings are eligible to retain MS Dhoni on the same rule for a much lower price of INR 4 crore.

CSK, although are yet to confirm their retention list, are set to place MS Dhoni as an uncapped player and will retain him ahead of the retention list deadline day.

The BCCI recently announced the IPL 2025 retention rules, stating that any Indian cricketer who has not participated in any international matches over the last five seasons can be retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore.

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said the five-time champions are hopeful of retaining MS Dhoni for the next season. Dhoni has remained tight-lipped about his future as a player in the IPL.
