The new year begins Monday, when pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Port St. Lucie, Florida, then Wednesday, when they have their first workout, and then Feb. 17, when the Mets hold their first full-squad workout — Juan Soto and Pete Alonso and all, together as a group for the first time.

The Mets should end their offseason by sending Jeff McNeil to the Diamondbacks in a trade with the Diamondbacks

By Monday morning, the Mets’ spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., will be open to reporters, and pitchers and catchers who haven’t already will be required to report. The first official workout is two days later.
