A woman walking her dog was killed when a passing car veered onto the sidewalk, resulting in her bewildered dog walking home alone, Virginia deputies discovered. It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, in a neighborhood of single-family homes in Woodbridge, about a 23-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C.

Investigators said a 30-year-old man was driving a 2020 Nissan Versa when, for some reason, he drove onto the sidewalk.
