Aug 14, 2014 · I remember Shearer at Euro96. His accuracy and calmness in front of goal was something else. I remember watching him train and being able to put a ball through a tyre at some distance. Some footballers can say "top right corner" and put it there. And even less can do that in a game and drill it where they want it. Shearer was in the later category.

Shearer was an out and out goalscorer, whereas the people you mentioned had more to their game. Alan Shearer was a world class player in his day but then you have Thierry Henry who was the greatest player in the best Prem team of all time, Gerrard who held half a city up alone for the most part, Cole who is hated but was also the mainstay of a from nothing to everything Chelsea team and potential GOAT leftbsck...

Coz Fergie tried to sign him twice but Shearer refused to come to United. When Shearer left Southampton in 1992 he chose to go to Blackburn (£3.6 Mill), so Fergie got Cantona instead (£1.2 Mill).
