Amd's stable diffusion performance now with directml and ONNX for example is at the same level of performance of Automatic1111 Nvidia when the 4090 doesn't have the Tensor specific optimizations. 20.76 it/s for 7900xtx on Shark, and 21.04 it/s for A1111.

There will be all these talks about "xFormers is coming for AMD soon", "Shark will have training soon", "AMD will be equal to Nvidia soon".

Jul 25, 2023 · AMD is prepping for AI Inference in video games using game data that will already be in the GPU's ram to allow video game developers to create more intelligent npc's and AI generated game features/mechanics. They are not doing this for FSR. It's also likely why Microsoft has invested heavily in AMD and OpenAI.

AMD installed an AI accelerator because Microsoft wants to push "copilot" which, as far as I can tell gives no benefit to the consumer. Personally, I would have preferred infinity cache in regular strix point but 🤷‍♂️ AI is the new buzz word.

In the footnotes they do say "Ryzen AI is defined as the combination of a dedicated AI engine, AMD Radeon™ graphics engine, and Ryzen processor cores that enable AI capabilities".

Mar 4, 2024 · AMD can also crowdsource compute power, not unlike BOINC and folding@home to work through the petabytes or even exabytes of image data. This would help keep it open-source, as everyone can contribute to training datasets. If AMD funds AI development alone, I have a feeling FSR-AI will be closed-source.
